While most people were geared up on Wednesday for National Signing Day, curious to see where their favorite high school athletes would play sports at the next level, another important student recognition took place in Washington D.C.
Nominated by U.S. Representative Gary Palmer (Ala), 23 students were recognized in a recent ceremony with their families and members of the Sixth District nomination selection committee.
Among those students who received nominations were locals Madison Cole and Imani King-Berry of Clay-Chalkville High School, and Kaley Ann Fulton of Hewitt-Trussville High School.
“I’m grateful to these young men and women for their sincere desire to serve their country,’’ Palmer said. “We need a great group of young men and women who want to serve in our armed services. We need people of character and of courage who have a vision for our country. I think we have that in this group.”
The students receiving nominations will attend one of the U.S. Military Academies: United States Military Academy (West Point); the United States Naval Academy; the United States Air Force Academy; the United States Merchant Marine Academy; and the United States Coast Guard Academy.
