TRUSSVILLE –Hewitt-Trussville football coach Josh Floyd began a character development program for players during the last off-season. Projects have included picking up trash as a team on Earth Day and greeting elementary students as they arrive at school.
Saturday, several players, coaches and the coaches’ families made a trip to Dream Center in Woodlawn where they given the service project of visiting elderly patients at Eastview Rehibilitation and HealthCare.
“We had about 20 players involved on Saturday,” defensive coordinator Rudy Griffin said. “We played bingo, visited with the people there and really had a good time. The players has as much fun as the residents.”
Griffin said the players did and football chant which drew a big reaction from the folks at Eastview.
“Man, they were cheering and high-fiving,” Griffin said. “They loved it. They were so fired up and saying they were ready to play.”
The projects are designed to teach the players to serve the community and focus on developing character as they prepare for the world after high school.
But it isn’t just the players that participate. The coaches wives and children were also part of the entourage.
“Anytime we do these, you’ll see the whole family involved,” Griffin said.
