CLAY –Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrested Joel Allan Sloan, of Fultondale, for an alleged DUI and an outstanding warrant for theft on Saturday night.
When pulled over, Sloan was dressed as a clown.
A comment from the JCSO that accompanied the photo of Sloan said, “There is nothing funny about DUI. This clown is Joel Sloan. He was arrested tonight for DUI and a warrant.”
Witnesses said they saw a man in a clown suit pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy on Old Springville Road in Clay.
UPDATE: The following statement was issued by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 8:30 last night a deputy patrolling the 6500 block of Old Springville Road was flagged down by another motorist. The motorist told the deputy about seeing a red Ford SUV that had been driving erratically. It was reported that the SUV was weaving from lane to lane.
The deputy caught up to the SUV and observed the vehicle crossing into the oncoming lane and back. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver of the vehicle was dressed as a clown. He told the deputy that he had just had a few drinks at a local restaurant. He gave no explanation for the clown costume.
It was also discovered that he had an outstanding felony warrant for Theft of Property 1st Degree.
The man was identified as 51 year old Joel Allan Sloan of Fultondale. He was arrested and charged with DUI and the outstanding warrant. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $2500.
