BIRMINGHAM —Birmingham police said that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting Friday in the 4900 block of Brittain Street.
The victim has been identified as Iesha Mayhand, 24, of Birmingham.
Police said that around 12:45 p.m., officers from the east precinct responded to the listed location on a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground next a vehicle.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the suspect was taken into custody.
“Our preliminary investigation revealed the victim was brought to the location to get some money from her child’s father,” Lieutenant Sean Edwards said in a statement. “The victim and suspect had some sort of verbal altercation before the victim was shot. The behaviors displayed in this case contributed to the loss of life. So sad”.
This is an ongoing investigation, and information will be released as it becomes available.
