From Staff Reports
As a result of that accident on Alabama Highway 11 in Shelby County that happened early this afternoon, the roadway will be closed in both directions for an unknown period of time. The closure is taking place between Shelby County Highways 332 and 334.
At least two tractor trailers and several other cars were involved in the accident. First responders arrived and the preliminary report was that there were no serious injuries. However, one of the vehicles struck and damaged a natural gas line.
Pelham police officers, Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies, Pelham Fire and Shelby County Emergency management personnel are all on scene. The gas company has been notified.
Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes because the roadway will be closed until the accident is cleaned up and the gas line is repaired. Drivers should be cautious and drive slowly because of the first responders in the area. This release will be updated when the roadway is re-opened.
