JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred Thursday morning in the 600 block of 72nd Street South.
According to Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards, the victim has been identified as Roselyn Welton, 47, of Birmingham
Around 10:30 pm, officers from the East Precinct responded to the listed location on a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on her living room floor suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. .
Preliminary investigation revealed the crime appears to be domestic in nature.
“It is very evident that the perpetrator knew this victim and bringing the person responsible to justice, is a priority,” said Edwards.
The victim was found by her relatives who came by to check on her because they had not heard from her in a couple of days.
