BIRMINGHAM –Police have confirmed that an 18-year-old girl was found shot and killed in a bedroom at a residence in the 1600 block of 8th Court West.
According to Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards, on Monday, March 21, around 10:09 pm, officers from the West Precinct responded to the listed location on a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found the pregnant victim on the bedroom floor suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the body. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
The victim has been identified as Nakia Harris, 18, of Birmingham
Investigators learned the police were notified by the victim’s boyfriend who stated he found the victim in the bedroom. The boyfriend stated he went outside to his vehicle and while outside he heard a gunshot come from inside the residence. The boyfriend was transported to the administration building for further questioning.
“A young expectant mother is no longer here. Absolutely senseless. This family deserves justice and we are committed to the task,” Edwards said.
