From Staff Reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY — Around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, a 4-year-old child was shot at the Village Market in 7700 block of 2nd ave south.
According to a report from Birmingham Police Sgt. Bryan Shelton, the shooting was accidental.
Apparently the mother left children in her car, and another child got their hands on the gun and it discharged. Although the bullet did graze the boys skull, it did not enter the skull.
Currently he is in stable condition at a local hospital.
“If you choose to own a gun you have to be safety minded and exercise a higher standard of care. We’re glad he’s okay,” said Shelton.
