JEFFERSON COUNTY – Following the untimely death of Jefferson County Board of Education member Dean Taylor, who passed away last Saturday, March 19, in a one vehicle accident, the board has begun the process to fill the vacancy. The board has 30 days to fill the vacancy, and the term appointment will end in November os 2020. Letters of interest and resumes are now being accept, with a cutoff date of April 15.
Candidates must meet all legal qualifications for the position set forth in the Code of Alabama.
No person shall be eligible for election or appointment as a member of a county board of education unless he or she satisfies all of the following qualifications:
-Is a person of good moral character
-Has obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent
-Is not employed by that county board of educatio, unless serving as a member of the county board of education on April 20, 2012
-Is not serving on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary educational institution
-Is not on the National Sex Offender Registry or the state sex offender registry
-Has not been convicted of a felony
The school Board Governance Improvement Act of 2012 requires that all potential candidates must be willing to comply with the Certificate of Affirmation of School Board Members.
Applicants for the position to be filled must reside within the geographic area served by the Jefferson County Board of Education.

The information will be accepted through the end of the business day (4:30 p.m.) on Friday, April 15, 2016, and should be addressed to:
