BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after an incident on May 4.
Around 1:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2900 block of 31st Street on reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found 31-year-old Martez Taylor of Birmingham lying on the ground next to an orange and blue Oldsmobile. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the body and was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
According to Lt. Sean Edwards, the victim was seen driving around the block several times prior to the shooting. Witnesses said they saw the car go around the block and heard someone arguing, followed by a gunshot.
“It appears the victim and the shooter had prior history,” Edwards said. “Our priority is to identify and locate the shooter.”
Anyone with information should call the BPD Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or CrimeStoppers at 254-7777. This is an ongoing investigation.
