With councilman Joe Cochrane away on city business and councilman John Churchwell out due to a medical emergency, the remaining council members had their work cut out for them Thursday. The remaining council discussed the upcoming election, summer events, more park improvements, and necessary equipment for City Hall.
Pinson residents may have a new polling place for the next election. The Council has determined that the current polling location is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mayor Hoyt Sanders believes that the Rock School Center would be a more appropriate place to hold elections, as the building already meets most ADA standards. In case there are any issues or areas requiring improvement at the Rock School, the mayor is also authorized to address these up to a total cost of $5,000.

Well, the city of Pinson may have been discriminating against people with a disability since they became an actual incorporation of the city in 2004, according to this news that was released to the public.. There have been many elections at this election location, even the vote to incorporate a city, and none of the elections were ADA compliant. I have asked more times than one to the Pinson City council to have an ADA committee so there could be a greater understanding of the laws in place for people with disabilities. It has just went in one ear and out the other.
