PINSON — Pinson Valley captured the Class 6A, Area 12 softball championship by beating Clay-Chalkville 8-1 in the tournament final.
It’s the second straight area title for the Lady Indians.
Pinson Valley went unbeaten in the tournament while Clay had to advance through the losers bracket to get back to the final.
Both the Lady Indians and the Lady Cougars advance to the North Central Regional Tournament at Tuscaloosa this week.
Neither team had much trouble with the other two area teams, Huffman and Shades Valley. Clay blasted Shades Valley 17-2 and Pinson beat Huffman 16-0 to start play. After Pinson knocked off Clay 12-2 and Shades Valley beat Huffman 16-6, Clay came back to knock off Shades Valley again, 15-0.
In the final, Pinson Valley’s Lauren Kiplinger picked up the win, striking out eight. Madi Pliscofsky went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Destinee Cole was 2-for-4 and Shauna Clevenger was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Pinson Valley will face Homewood on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Sokol Park. Clay faces Briarwood Christian, also at 10:30.
Walker, Chelsea, Gardendale and Oxford are the other teams in the North Central Regional double-elimination tournament.
