CENTER POINT — Just after 1:30 Monday afternoon, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment in the 100 block of Spring Garden Way.
It was reported that two black males had been seen removing a window from the home and climbing inside.
Deputies arrived and found a rear window had been broken. A black male matching the description given was seen running up a nearby staircase to another apartment, and was detained. A second male came out from the upstairs apartment and indicated that the other suspect was hiding inside. Deputies entered the apartment and took the second suspect into custody.
The suspects’ vehicle was found sitting in the parking lot of the apartment complex and a 42-inch television was found inside. When the victim arrived on scene, she identified the television as hers.
The suspects were identified as the two who had committed the burglary. Terreus Marquez Cooper, 18 of Center Point, and Billy Kennard Smith Jr., 26 of Birmingham, were both charged with burglary in the third degree and theft of property in the third degree. They were taken to the Jefferson County Jail, where they posted a $2,800 bond and were released.
