BIRMINGHAM —On Sunday, around 5:40 a.m., Birmingham police officers from the north precinct responded to the 2800 block of Norwood Boulevard. on a person down. Upon arrival, Officers found the victim lying on the ground with blood on his face, according to Lt. Sean Edwards.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. At that time, officers were unable to determine the cause of death. The victim, identified as Alex Walker, 31, of Birmingham, was taken to the Jefferson County Coroner’s office where it was determined the he died from a single gunshot wound to the neck area, Edwards said.
Detectives learned Walker was involved in a shooting incident that took place on Saturday, May 28 in the same neighborhood. According to witnesses, there were several people involved in the shooting.
“Unfortunately, this is the type of behavior that usually contributes to the loss of life,” Edwards said. “So sad.”
