BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide after an incident on Wednesday.
Officers were called to the 1700 block of Laurel Avenue SW around 9:57 p.m. on a gunshot. Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the body, sitting inside his vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue, and his name will be released once next of kin is notified.
A witness told police that while he was traveling on the listed road, he noticed a black Honda had collided with a tree. The witness said while attempting to assist the victim, he found the victim laying partially outside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicate there were multiple suspects in the vehicle prior to the victim’s death.
“It appears in this case, the victim was literally surrounded by bad company,” Lt. Sean Edwards said. “So sad.”
