SHELBY COUNTY –According to the Alabama State Troopers, a three-vehicle crash at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, has claimed one life.
The driver of a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 65 one mile south of Alabaster, when his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Daniel Joseph Robinson, 28, of Calera.
The Lancer was then struck by a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, and the Lancer caught fire. The driver of the Lancer was identified as Robert Alan Gentry, 43, of Clanton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robinson was not injured. The driver of the Sonata was injured and taken to an area hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
