BIRMINGHAM –Detectives from the Birmingham Police Department have opened a third homicide investigation Tuesday after a victim was found shot to death.
Lieutenant Sean Edwards said the incident occurred Wednesday in the 600 block of Carraway Blvd.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“On Wednesday, August 17, 2016 around 5:30 p.m., north precinct officers responded to the listed location on a person down,” Edwards said in a statement. “Upon arrival, officers found the victim laying on the ground in an open field next to a mattress suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the arm.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. At this time, a clear motive has not been established, Edwards said.
Wednesday began with Birmingham police investigating the murder of an 85-year-old man whose body was found on fire in in the backyard of his north Birmingham home.
By mid-afternoon, detectives were investigating a second homicide when a Tuesday night shooting victim died from his injuries at UAB Hospital.
