TRUSSVILLE –Tribune Digital Media will be live streaming election coverage at TrussvilleTribune.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, publisher Scott Buttram announced. The show will be broadcast from the Tribune Digital Media studios on Main Street.
“We’ll have people at each polling place in Trussville, Clay and Pinson who will be calling in the vote totals,” Buttram said. “This will allow us to get the results from all of the races to our readers immediately. Newspaper readers are the group of people most likely to vote and it just follows that they will be the group most interested in the results of that vote.”
The Tribune live streamed candidate forums for all of the races in the newspaper coverage area over the last three weeks. Buttram said it was the interest in those forums that led to the decision to host the election night coverage.
“Our readers’ response to the online forums was pretty overwhelming and they exceeded all expectations,” Buttram said. “These are the type things that technology now enables local newspapers to do and it’s the type of events sophisticated readers and viewers expect from their newspaper in the twenty-first century.”
Buttram and Tribune news anchor Brannon Dawkins are schedule to host the election night coverage, but Dawkins may not be available due to a family emergency in Georgia.
“We have a back-up plan in place if Brannon can’t be here,” Buttram said. “She and Ryan are in our thoughts and prayers and we’ll cover whatever we need to cover in her absence.”
