BIRMINGHAM – Two separate incidents have left three people wounded on Thursday.
A male and female were shot inside a car outside the BP gas station on Montevallo Road Southwest, according to al.com.
The female victim as sitting inside the vehicle at the gas pumps, while her boyfriend went inside the store. As he was going back to the car, another man opened fire. The victim returned fire, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether the suspect was hit. The suspect fled the scene heading northbound on Montevallo Road. .
The female victim was shot in the back and the male victim was shot in the leg. Both were taken to UAB Hospital, and the injuries aren’t believed to be life threatening. There were at least three dozen shots fired on the scene.
Police intend to review surveillance footage. No suspects are in custody at this time.
Shortly before, police responded to a shooting in the 800 block of Center Street North.
The victim was found on the front porch of his mother’s apartment, bleeding from the knee. The victim told police he was at Freshland Super Market when the store owner fired a shot into the floor. The bullet ricocheted and hit him in the knee, and he fled the scene to his mother’s nearby apartment.
Police said the store owner said four young men came into the store, one of which was potentially armed. Believing he was about to be robbed, the owner fired a warning shot into the floor, and the teens left the scene.
Paramedics treated the victim on the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
