CLAY — Clay-Chalkville will host the Class 6A, Area 12 volleyball tournament next Tuesday, Oct. 18. The Cougars of Natasha Brown knocked off Gardendale 25-21, 25-22 and 25-18 on Thursday to improve to 23-13 and 3-0 in the area.
The Cougars were set to host Hueytown and Woodlawn in a tri-match on Senior Night on Tuesday.
The Cougars put on a strong performance in the Jefferson County tournament Oct. 1-4. They beat Pinson Valley 25-2 and 25-18, knocked off Gardendale 25-17, 25-17, lost to Mortimer Jordan 25-20, 25-18, beat McAdory 25-17, 25-23, before losing again to Mortimer Jordan 26-24, 22-25, 15-12.
On Tuesday at Shades Valley, they dropped a five-set decision as the Mounties rallied from 2-0 down, winning 20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-13.
Huskies’ Senior Night: Hewitt-Trussville’s volleyball team celebrated Senior Night on Thursday at Bryant Bank Arena. The Huskies took on Mortimer Jordan at 6 p.m. and swept the team 3-0. The Huskies (8-16, 1-4 Class 7A, Area 7) wrapped up third place in the region with 25-7 in the set three sweeping Gadsden City on Tuesday.
