With many spending their Thanksgiving holiday traveling, Alabama State Troopers are seeking the help of motorists to prevent traffic crashes.
Secretary of Law Enforcement Stan Stabler said Alabama State Troopers investigated 10 traffic fatalities during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend during 2015.
The holiday travel period begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and extends through midnight on Sunday. During that time, all of ALEA’s available Troopers will work additional shifts to make a visible presence. Additionally troopers will work with local law enforcement agencies to bolster patrol/enforcement activities to assist stranded motorists. Motorists needing assistance can call *HP or 911 from their cell phone while traveling through Alabama.
“What should have been a festive occasion was marred by tragedy on Alabama’s roadways,” Stabler said. “Please, motorists, support the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and our law enforcement partners from across the state to ensure everyone buckles up, obeys speed limits and avoids driving under the influence or while distracted. We want everyone to be safe and enjoy the long weekend.”
