PINSON — As of Tuesday afternoon, Matt Glover has been relieved of his duties as head football coach at Pinson Valley High School.
Glover was 50-41 over eight seasons with the Indians, including a 4-7 mark in the playoffs. He led the Indians to the postseason in each of his last seven seasons. Glover is 64-58 overall as a head coach in 11 seasons.
In 2016, Pinson Valley finished 8-4 with a 4-OT loss to Austin in the second round of the playoffs. The Indians defeated rival Clay-Chalkville for the first time in history this season.
“I met with Mr. Turner yesterday, and he said he wanted to go a different direction with the head football coach position,” Glover said. “I respect his decision. He’s done a good job turning this school around.”
Glover is the second coach in the Jefferson County school system to be let go this week, as Minor fired head coach George Bates as well.
Glover met with his team Wednesday morning. The Indians have 15 returning starters next season with nine on offense and six on defense.
“These kids are resilient, and they’ll bounce back,” Glover said.

But Minor’s coach was completely let go – he cannot teach/coach for Jefferson County any longer….or so I’ve heard. I don’t think that is the situation here.

I was fortunate to coach with Coach Matt Glover in 2013. Great coach and person. He will land on his feet.

Contracts are until the end of the school year for teachers, if he’s untenured he can be relieved of his teaching duties in May. If either of them are tenured they can stay on as a teacher.
