BLOUNT COUNTY — Two bodies have been discovered in Blount County that are believed to belong to a couple that has been missing since December.
The bodies, which were found around Sims Road, are believed to be those of Ricardo Santiago and Adalberta Chavez of Cleveland, according to multiple reports.
“It is a very tragic event for the family,” Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey told WVTM 13 Wednesday. “They have been looking for several weeks for their loved ones. Today is a different chapter of that tragedy, in that they can put some closure to the fact that their loved ones have been found. They can provide them the proper goodbye.”
WBRC Fox 6 reports that the couple were last seen on Dec. 16, 2017. 17-year-old Leo Chavez, the couple’s son, was arrested on a warrant that included capital murder and robbery charges.
“We always wait for DFS (Department of Forensic Sciences) to do their final testing, biological testing, but based off the information we have, through the investigation, we have determined that we believe that those remains belong to Ricardo Gonzalez and Adalberta Chavez,” Casey told WVTM 13.
