TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Cub Scouts Pack #216 will be hosting their annual pinewood derby on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Trussville Civic Center located at 5381 Trussville Clay Road.
Assistant Scoutmaster Robert Letts said the purpose of the derby is to “provide a positive experience for the cub, the parents, the Pack and the Chartered Organization.”
Letts added that this annual event is a fun time for the scouts and encouraged them to invite their family members to come and participate on Saturday.
Like any other race, there are specific rules that are to be followed. According to the Pack #216 official pinewood derby 2018 rules, all cars must be constructed from the official BSA Pinewood Derby Kit, weigh 5 ounces or less, and measure no taller than 4” h x 2.75” w x 7” long.
Letts says registration and official weigh in starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening and adds all cars must not exceed the weight maximum stated in the official rules found at www.pack216.org.
The race will start promptly at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and all racers must have weighed in before they can race.
Concessions will be available to those attending the derby by Troop #216 as a fundraiser.
“Troop #216 will be coming out to support our Pack through concessions,” said Letts. “The concessions are very inexpensive to the public. The funds raised will be donated back to our Pack.”
The following will be the categories for the race classes: first, second and third place winners for each Den, Overall, and “Best in Show”.
Parents and siblings are also encouraged to race as well. Letts said there will be a separate race for them immediately following the Cub Scout race. The entries include: Dens, Open Class, Siblings, Outlaw (no rules), and Pack Over All.
