TRUSSVILLE – Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale will announce his bid for re-election at a press conference in Hoover next week.
“I want to continue to serve the citizens of Jefferson County citizens along with the dedicated men and women of the Sheriff’s Office,” Hale said in a press release. “I look forward to continuing working to keep Jefferson County’s neighborhoods and communities safe.”
Hale was first elected sheriff in 1998. He has been in law enforcement since 1973, beginning with Homewood Police Department before transferring to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in 1976.
According to the release, the department has changes under Hale’s leadership, including last year when he concluded a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice first implemented in 1982 on hiring and promoting black and female personnel. The release said that close to 30 percent of deputies are black, while 20 percent are female and more than a third of supervisors are black.
Hale will make his announcement at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover at 6 p.m. on Feb. 6.
