From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE –Police are investigating after a dead body was discovered at U.S. Highway 11 and Commerce Drive on Friday morning.
According to Sergeant Michael Bruce, a crew of surveyors working on a job in the area spotted a pile of debris and went to investigate. They saw what appeared to be the physical remains of someone and notified the Trussville police at about 10 a.m.
“The coroner is on his way and we have two evidence technicians in route,” Bruce said. “Everything at this point is preliminary pending an investigation of the scene and the body. The body is still mostly covered, so we’re very limited with what we know right now.”
Based on what officers could observe, the victim appears to be a Caucasian or Hispanic male. Bruce did not believe the body had been in the location very long. He said there are no recent missing person reports filed with TPD.
“There was an obvious attempt to conceal the body,” Bruce said. “It’s probably fair to say that we suspect foul play and we’ll proceed with the investigation under that assumption. The coroner will determine a cause of death and try to identify the person.”
Bruce said it’s hard to say where the death occurred, but it is possible that it occurred in another location and the body had been dumped where it was found.
This is a breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
