BIRMINGHAM – A former recruit from the Birmingham Police Academy has been charged with the murder of a man that took place on Feb. 9, according to a report by Carol Robinson.
The incident took place when Arron Jamal Gaines, 21, allegedly confronted Dietrich “Dede” Boone at his residence. An argument broke out between the two over a female friend that they had in common.
Police say that Gaines shot Boone just outside of the residence. Gaines apparently fled the scene but later turned himself in to authorities.
Gaines was a recruit at the Birmingham Police Academy. According to the report, he resigned in January 2018 due to conduct violations. He was never a certified policeman with the department.
After he turned himself in, Gaines was held at the Birmingham Jail but was moved to the Jefferson County Jail. His bond was set at $125,000.
