CULLMAN –A crash on Interstate 65 in Cullman County claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman.
The crash occurred at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, according to House Public Information Officer Clay Redden. Killed in the crash was Kelsey Treadaway of Cullman. She was identified by Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick who said she died of blunt force trauma.
The victim is the daughter of State Rep. Allen Treadway who is also a captain at the Birmingham Police Department.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident happened on Interstate 65 near Good Hope in Cullman County when Treadaway’s car was struck from behind by another car. ALEA said that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time. A passenger in her car was transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
The man who allegedly struck Treadaway’s car has been identified as Brandon Adam Hamm, 33, of Cullman. He also allegedly left the scene. Police were later able to track him down and place him under arrest, charging him with leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony. ALEA said that he was uninjured during the crash.
Allen Treadway’s District 51 represents parts of Pinson, Birmingham, Gardendale, Center Point and north to Warrior and Trafford.
The wreck is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
