MONTGOMERY — Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has issued a state of emergency following extensive damaged caused by the outbreak of severe weather last night. Jacksonville State University sustained damage when a tornado touched down.
The proclamation signed by Ivey lists 27 counties affected by last night’s storms, including Jefferson and St. Clair. The order by Ivey authorizes the activation of the Alabama National Guard and to “expedite” the transportation of equipment, supplies and construction materials.
It also allows education authorities affected by the weather to cancel or delay classes based on local conditions.
