From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE –St. Vincent’s announced on Monday that birth deliveries at the St. Vincent’s East campus will end on July 1. Following that date, all baby deliveries will take place on the St. Vincent’s Birmingham campus.
“Over the last few months, we have been collaborating closely with our St. Vincent’s East OB/GYN Department on the best way to serve our OB/GYN patients in the future,” the statement said. “Together, we have reached the mutual decision to move deliveries to the St. Vincent’s Birmingham campus, effective July 1. Our practices will continue to care for these patients on the East campus prior to delivery. We remain deeply committed to our St. Vincent’s East campus and the surrounding community.
“This change will allow us to concentrate our OB/GYN efforts in one comprehensive and highly specialized location, providing the highest level of quality care.”
The statement did not directly address the possibility of layoffs, but did say St. Vincent’s would try to move as many personnel as possible to the Birmingham campus.
“We greatly appreciate the dedication of our St. Vincent’s East birth suites and NICU associates, and will be looking to provide as many nurses as possible opportunities in the St. Vincent’s Birmingham birth suites,” according to the statement.
