TRUSSVILLE –A vehicle fire briefly closed Interstate 59 northbound in Trussville on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Trussville Fire and Rescue chief Tim Shotts, the incident occurred near the 140 mile marker just south of the Chalkville Road exit in the I-59 northbound lane.
“We had a truck hauling vehicles that caught on fire and we had to shut down traffic briefly to get our trucks in position,” Shotts said. “The fire apparently started in the engine compartment and damaged the truck substantially. The vehicles being hauled sustained minor damage, but thankfully there were no injuries.”
Shotts said I-59 reopened to traffic after about 10 to 15 minutes while firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
