From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
One week after a domestic violence incident led to the shooting of Habibba Moneque Walker, the 45-year-old mother has passed away from her injuries, according to Carol Robinson. Her ex-husband, Dereck Jamaille Walker, 46, is the suspect of the shooting and is being held at a county jail in Florida where he surrendered to authorities on April 17.
The incident took place on April 16 when Dereck Walker allegedly broke into the home of his ex-wife and children and shot Habibba Walker as she tried to flee. The children were not injured as they ran from the house and sought help from neighbors. Habibba Walker, however, was taken to a hospital and placed on life support.
Dereck Walker later turned himself in to Escambia County authorities in Florida after a traffic stop. In Pensacola, Walker waived extradition and currently remains at the Escambia County Jail.
He was charged with attempted murder and first degree armed burglary. The attempted murder charge may be upgraded to capital murder.
