From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — A Trussville girl was involved in a traffic accident over the weekend that has left her with critical injuries. Kayden Russell, 11, remains at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where she is recovering.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning on I-59. Kayden and her mother, Cara Yager, were in a single vehicle crash on I-59 North just before the 174 Springville exit. Yager was also injured and was taken to a hospital but was later released.
According to a Facebook group set up to support Kayden, she is being sedated at the hospital to allow her body to rest. Although her prospects did not look good at first, she has showing signs of recovery, including breathing on her own and brain activity. She is a sixth grade student at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School.
“The initial diagnosis looked bleak but she has been a fighter and is recovering at an exceptional rate,” said Randall Pelham, a friend of the family.
The Facebook group is Keep Praying for Kayden and is being regularly updated on her progress.
