TRUSSVILLE – The city is one step closer to having more parking spaces in downtown Trussville.
City Council met Friday morning during a special-called meeting to consider two parcel transactions located behind Edgar’s Bakery. The parcel transactions cost the city $328,034.85. One parcel is one of two Braden’s Furniture warehouses located on 108 Cherry Street. The other property is located on 107 Vann Circle.
Mayor Buddy Choat said part of the contract with Braden’s Furniture is that if the warehouse beside the city’s parcel is leased, the city will have the authority to approve the tenants and right of first refusal to purchase the property.
The goal of the Council approving the two parcels today is to create public parking for the city.
The city is currently in a lease agreement in the parking lot on Main Street located next to Edgar’s Bakery. City Clerk Lynn Porter said that the city is 18 months into a renewed lease of 10 years.
“There is a negotiation clause in the contract if someone wants to get out of the contract,” said Porter. “The City wanted to hedge their bets in any event that someone backed out of the agreement.”
The Council approved, as the terms of the contract, to wire funds in the amount of $176,288.58 to Braden Furniture and $151,746.27 to Lovelady.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, June 12.
