BIRMINGHAM –The weekend in got off to a violent and deadly start late Friday night and continued into early Saturday morning. Police are investigating after three people were killed in three hours in separate shootings overnight in Birmingham.
Two of the victims have been identified.
Decorian Taylor, 22, was found shot to death at 11 p.m. Friday on 28th Street Southwest. Police said Taylor was shot multiple times and may have been trying to run away when he was gunned down, according to Sergeant Johnny Williams.
Williams said Taylor lived not too far from where the shooting occurred.
Police are looking for witnesses to the shooting and no arrests have been made at this time.
About 20 minutes later, Warren Whitted, 36, was shot multiple times in the 5400 block of Park Ave near a mechanic shop.
Upon arrival, officers observed Whitted lying in the front driveway area of a mechanic shop. It appeared the victim had been shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Witted frequented the shop and helped out. Several gunshots were heard in the area around the time of the shooting. No motive or suspect information is available at this time.
The third shooting homicide occurred at about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday. Police responded to 500 block of Valley Avenue where an unidentified male was found shot to death inside a vehicle.
According to Williams, a preliminary investigation revealed the victim may have been a bystander caught in crossfire. Another male was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but was not injured. No suspects have been identified at this time.
