CENTER POINT — A woman shot and wounded her ex-husband after he broke into her house and tried to rape her, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence situation on the 2800 block of 7th Street Northeast in the Center Point area at around 10 a.m. on Thursday morning. At the residence, an adult female told deputies that her estranged husband broke into the house and tried to sexually assault her.
According to the sheriff’s office, the woman was armed and shot him in the leg.
Afterwards, the suspect left and fled in a vehicle. He was later stopped by deputies at the 1900 block of Old Springville Road. He was taken to an area hospital and his injuries were not life threatening.
The man was identified as Eric Austin, 31. After questioning by sheriff’s detectives he was charged with attempted rape and domestic violence in the second degree. He is still hospitalized and remains under guard.
Austin will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail after his release from the hospital.
