PELL CITY –A train derailment at 3:30 a.m. in Pell City has blocked Wolf Creek Road South, but poses no danger to the public, according to the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency.
According to the city, there were no injuries and the road blockage was the only impact to the public.
Originally, Wolf Creek Road and Roberts Mill Pond Road were blocked, though Roberts Mill Pond Road is now open.
St. Clair EMA recommends the following alternate routes:
Alternate route to Pell City: Wolf Creek Rd South, Sweet Apple, Dry Creek
Alternate route to Birmingham: Wolf Creek Rd South, Camp Winnataska, Hwy 78, I-20
The cause of the derailment is unknown at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
In May of 2017, there was a 30 car train derailment in Pell City.
