ODENVILLE – The Odenville Police Department has decided to join in the nationwide law enforcement lip-sync battle that went viral last month.
The current lip-sync challenge reportedly began in Texas by a deputy, Alexander Mena, from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. His department posted a video of Mena singing “Fuiste Mala” on June 19 which went viral. The video was released to improve community relations with officers.
Odenville Police Chief Adam Pardue said that citizens filled his inbox challenging the department to perform the officer lip-sync challenge.
“My inbox was full of requests from our citizens to participate in this lip-sync challenge,” said Pardue. “We reached out on Tuesday evening agreeing to participate if our Facebook fans would increase our number of likes from 6,500 to 7,000. In just three hours, our fans exceeded the amount. Last time I checked we were close to 7,500.”
Odenville is not the only Alabama law enforcement to take the challenge. Earlier this week, Hollywood Police Department went viral with their lip-sync version of God’s Not Dead.
Pardue said that a fellow citizen, Alec Graham, volunteered to record the video.
“Alec has been editing and preparing a three-minute video of our eight-member department team,” said Pardue. “We wanted to do something a little different and keep visitors interested. We have compiled 4-5 different songs within the video to keep things active as well as showcase our department’s patrol vehicles.”
The department sent a shout-out over the Facebook page last night thanking Graham for his effortless work to produce the video.
“Many thanks to Alex and his dad, John, for enduring the heat yesterday to pull this off. Alec showed me a little sneak peek and it’s great. This guy can do wonders with a camera and a computer. Stay tuned, the OPD lip-sync challenge is coming.”
“It is not often that we all get together and have fun like that,” said Pardue. “It is usually pretty serious here when we are all working. So it was good to get together and have fun.”
The video can be viewed on the department’s Facebook page.
