BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man faces several charges of burglary and obstructing justice after police say that he burglarized two homes.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the first incident just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. A resident at the 2700 block of Altadena Road told police that a man – later identified as Leonard Christopher Daniels, 40, – knocked on the door. When the victim opened the door, he attempted to force his way inside but was pushed out.
The victim locked the door while the suspect fled before deputies responded to the scene.
“As deputies were speaking to the victim they were notified of another burglary in progress nearby at a home in the 2600 block of King’s Ridge Drive,” JCSO said in a statement. “The suspect had entered the home through an unlocked side door and fled when confronted. The description of the suspect matched that of the previous burglary and was broadcast to other deputies in the area.”
Daniels was later located walking on Altadena Road and was stopped. According to the sheriff’s office, he told deputies that his name was Chris Hampton but they were able to determine his real name.
Daniels was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he faces charges of two counts of burglary in the second degree as well as obstructing justice with a false identity. His bond was set at $10,300.
