BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in Birmingham to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchanges, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces drivers should expect more delays to occur this week. The work is a part of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.
There will be intermittent lane closures and ramp closures this week on I-59/20 Southbound, and I-65 Northbound and Southbound.
- I-65 Southbound will have a single left lane closure between 3rd Avenue South and Green Springs Highway Monday, August 20th, Tuesday, August 21st, and Wednesday, August 22nd from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.
- I-65 Northbound will have a single left lane closure Tuesday, August 21stt and Wednesday, August 22nd from 7 p.m. until 3 p.m. the following day.
- The I-59/20 Southbound off ramp to 31stStreet is closed now and will remain closed all week. The I-59/20 Southbound off ramp to Carraway Blvd. will be closed Monday, August 20th, Tuesday, August 21st, and Wednesday, August 22nd from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. each day.
- Carraway Blvd. will be closed between 12th Avenue N and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. Monday, August 20th, Tuesday, August 21st, and Wednesday, August 22nd from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
Message boards and all necessary traffic controls will be in place. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
