BIRMINGHAM – On August 20, 2018 at approximately 8:50 PM, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Family Dollar on Center Point Parkway for a report of an armed robbery.
When deputies arrived on scene, they were advised that a black male suspect had come into the store and walked around as if he were shopping. He then went to the register and placed some items on the counter. When the cashier asked for payment, the offender presented a handgun and ordered the clerk to give him all of the money in the register. The suspect then fled the store.
According to the employees, the suspect is in the store on almost a daily basis. They were able to provide deputies with a good description of the suspect, as well as a detailed description of the vehicle he is usually driving.

The suspect was taken into custody and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
A few hours later, the same deputy who located the vehicle was in the parking lot of Walmart on Roebuck Parkway discussing a case with another deputy when the deputies observed a suspect walking around the parking lot and pulling door handles on vehicles.
When deputies attempted to detain the subject, he struggled with them and fled into Walmart and out the back exit. He then ran onto Red Lane Road and approached a female in her vehicle.
When deputies arrived at the vehicle, the suspect was beating on the vehicle’s windows, telling the female to let him in, he had a gun.
Again, the suspect was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Elude and Receiving Stolen Property 4th Degree. His bonds total $10,900. Both suspects identifications are being withheld pending formal charges.
