From the Trussville Tribune staff reports
SARASOTA, FLA — You never know what you’re going to find at the thrift store. For example, employees of the Pine Thrift Shop of Sarasota, Fla found nearly five pounds of marijuana in a vacuum sealed bag, as reported by WTVT-TV.
The drugs were left in the after-hours donation-drop off. Not much was made of the deposit, at first, but about a week after arrival a store employee retrieved the item and inspected it. After unsealing the bag, he knew he had found a bag full of marijuana. Authorities were contacted and the illegal drugs were turned over to them.
An investigation is ongoing with police attempting to extract DNA evidence from the bag and store employees assisting in reviewing surveillance video; in the hopes that a culprit can be identified.
Authorities are unsure if the marijuana was left on purpose of if the deposit was the result of a mix-up. One thing is certain though, five pounds of marijuana is not the kind of charitable donation that one can expect to receive a tax write-off for.
