ARGO — The Argo City Council met on Monday. Mayor Betty Bradley led the room in a call to order, a heart-felt invocation was then given, followed by a pledge of allegiance to the flag. Afterwards the council proceeded with city business.
Teen Council President Katie Whitfield spoke with the council. The teen council has doubled in number over the last year and is selling Springville and Argo t-shirts. The proceeds from the sales will go to funding block parties and possibly movie nights. The Teen Council is keen to provide such activities that the entire community can participate in.
The police report to the council advised that for the month of August the following occurred:
• 25 incident reports
• 6 motor vehicle accidents
• 9 false alarms in residential areas
• 20 business license checks
• 707 dispatch calls
• 10 incidents of domestic violence
• 14 fire assists
• 37 officer assists
• 138 escorts
• 145 patrol requests
• 14 incidents of public assistance
• 1952 business checks
• 8 drug cases
• 8 DUI cases
• 10 driver’s license violations
• 1187 total calls for service
It was further advised that a patrol car, that had been gifted to Argo from the city of Trussville, will be re-marked, indicating its new jurisdiction, after which it will be available for service.
The fire report to the council advised that for the month of August the following occurred:
• 36 medical calls
• 2 motor vehicle calls
• 1 structure call
• 1 tree down call
• 1 smell of gas call
• 2 vehicle fires
• 2 power pole fires
• 3 brush fires
• 1 false alarm
• 1 police assist
• 50 total calls to service
Other business included a motion to let the mayor sign a contract so that Argo could continue using a program for Local Government Software. The motion was passed, the renewal will cost $4281.50.
In the mayor’s report it was revealed that the city has started advertising for the position of fire chief for the city. Two applicants have responded so far.
