RANDOLF COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, Sept. 21, around 4:30 p.m. has claimed the life of a Roanoke man.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Lee Hershel Wayne Taylor, 74, was traveling south on County Road 61 when the 1997 Ford F-150 he was driving was struck by a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 traveling north. The collision caused Taylor’s pickup to leave the roadway. Upon re-entering the roadway, Taylor, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his pickup. Taylor was transported to Tanner Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 was identified as Raymond Scott Mussmann, 55, of Roanoke.
Despite his vehicle being heavily damaged by the crash, Mussmann left the scene and proceeded, nearly three miles, to his residence. Randolph County Deputies, with the assistance of motorists, located him at his residence. Mussmann was transported to Tanner Medical Center for minor injuries sustained in the crash. After being released from medical care, Mussmann was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and driving under the influence.
The crash occurred seven-tenths of a mile north of Roanoke City Limits. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
