A crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 280 at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, that killed a 52-year-old woman and her 3-year-old granddaughter. A truck driver in the other vehicle was airlifted to a hospital.
The woman has been identified as Tammy Renae Bullard.
According to a report by AL.com, the accident at mile marker 38, between Sylacauga and Childersburg on Highway 280. Alabama State Cpl. Jimmy Harrell said the driver of a commercial vehicle carrying some kind of explosive material was traveling eastbound when he possibly blew a tire and the truck overturned on its side, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV carrying the woman and an infant. Both were confirmed dead.
The truck driver was flown by helicopter to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center.
Because of the unknown hazardous material the truck was hauling, authorities evacuated all businesses and home within a one-mile radius, emergency crews remained on the scene for several hours.
