TRUSSVILLE— Hewitt-Trussville women’s basketball kicked off their Thanksgiving tournament with a 57-39 victory over Covington (Tenn.).
The Huskies jumped out to an early 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter as their dominating defense proved to be too much for the Chargers. They added 15 more points in the second quarter with sophomore forward Amiya Payne giving the Huskies 11 first-half points, herself, to take a 32-14 lead into halftime.
The Huskies came out of the half and continued their dominance behind junior forward Leah Harrison’s ten second-half points with eight coming in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Harrison finished with 12 points as Payne finished with a team-high 16 points.
The Huskies will play Oak Mountain at 7 p.m. for their second game of the tournament.
