BOONE, N.C.— Appalachian State and former Hewitt-Trussville quarterback Zac Thomas has been awarded the Sun Belt Conference Offensive player of the year. Thomas earned the honors after throwing for 1,787 yards and and 18 touchdowns. He also added 417 yards and eight touchdowns rushing, as well.
Thomas led the Mountaineers to a 10-2 record this season and also captured the Sun Belt Conference championship after defeating Louisiana 30-19 on Dec. 1.
