ONEONTA – The flu has struck more than 200 students in the Oneonta school system, according to WIAT.
Oneonta City School Superintendent Daniel Smith told WIAT that the school is “monitoring the cold and flu cases impacting the school system. The number of students out sick today (Thursday) is 206, which is down from 243 earlier this week. These numbers are for all students, K-12, in the school system.”
Smith also informed WIAT that they are making sure to observe daily sanitary methods and engaging in preventative measures to try and keep the flu from spreading.
“It’s like an epidemic,” Liz Miller, teacher at Oneonta Elementary School, told WIAT. “There are kids dropping left and right and we’ve had several students out for several days this week and they’re just sending them home. Just lined up at the nurse’s office; it’s just unreal.”
