NEWMAN, Calif. — A Newman Police officer has been reported shot and killed during a traffic stop, according to FoxNews.
In a news release, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said that Newman Police Officer Ronil Singh, 33, was shot and killed during a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, located about 80 miles east of San Jose.
Police said that a few minutes after responding, Singh called out “shots fired” over the radio. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, where Singh was found suffering gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect had already fled the scene before additional officers arrived.
