Flu shuts down Hayden area schools in Blount County

BLOUNT COUNTY — Due to the flu, Hayden area schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Hayden Area Schools will be closed Thursday, February 7th and Friday, February 8th due to flu. All faculty and staff should report on a regular schedule.
All other Blount County Schools will operate on a normal schedule.

That information is via social media from the Blount County School System. The county also said that all faculty and staff should report to work as usual and that all other Blount County Schools will operate as normal.
According to the CDC, the length and duration of flu season can vary. However, flu activity often starts to rise in October with a peak between December and February, but that activity can last as late as May.
